Artistic development activities

Artistic research (In Danish 'Kunstnerisk Udviklingsvirksomhed', 'KUV') is a term that focuses on art practice as a knowledge-producing act. In the artwork, new knowledge is generated in the material, technical and theoretical knowledge that forms the basis of the work.

KUV is an important part of the knowledge base of the educations and an essential foundation for methodology, pedagogical development, artistic practice and further development of competencies and skills in the various artistic disciplines.

Professors and associate professors at the Academy of Fine Arts work with KUV in the individual departments and through their own artistic practice. They collaborate across departments on special projects within KUV activities.

Research at the Academy

The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts hosts research projects carried out by visual artists at both PhD and postdoc level.

Unlike KUV, practice-based art research at the Schools of Visual Arts always takes place in collaboration with a university where the PhD fellow is enrolled. Therefore, it is not possible to apply for a PhD directly at the Academy of Fine Arts.
