Artist talk with Steven Cox in Medieskolens Auditorium

An artist talk discussing both art and curatorial practice

Steven Cox (b.1986, Aberdeen, Scotland) is an artist and curator based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Cox gained his undergraduate degree in Drawing & Painting from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee University (2008), and his MA in Art Theory and Curating from Edinburgh College of Art (2011).
 
Cox, has exhibited with galleries in the UK, USA, Italy, Denmark and France. His works combine elements of expressionist and geometric abstraction that simultaneously subvert the tenets of formalism. He has developed sequential and non-sequential stripe based paintings that hint at significant artists such as Brice Marden, Jackson Pollock, Camille Graeser, Ellsworth Kelly and Sean Scully. Cox has recently completed a 4-month residency in Netherlands at Gast Atelier Leo XIII, Tilburg, where he has began exploring a new avenue within his painting practice.
 
Under the moniker of Hunted Projects, Steven Cox has also curated exhibitions within Edinburgh, Paris and Netherlands. Cox regularly conducts artist dialogues with significant early-mid career for www.huntedprojects.com. To date, Cox has interviewed artists such as David Ostrowski, Folkert de Jong, Leo Gabin, Michael Staniak and Trudy Benson (amongst others), and has worked with institutions such as the Middelheim Museum in Antwerp, Talbot Rice Gallery, and the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh.
