HOW TO APPLY
The Schools of Visual Arts only receive applications digitally. Like all the other art education programmes under the auspices of the Danish Ministry of Culture, the Schools of Visual Arts use an online application portal.

When you wish to apply for admission to one of these education programmes for the first time, the portal will ask you to set up a user profile that includes your name and e-mail adress. Having set up this user profile, you will be able to see and edit your applications, and the portal includes an inbox where you will find our messages to you. You can use your profile again for subsequent applications, and you can use it to apply to several different Danish art education programmes simultaneously.

The application process involves a range of questions that you must answer. You will be asked to upload your CV and documentation of your works.

You will find instructions for creating your user profile and application via this link: https://kunstakademiet.dk/sites/default/files/ansogning_web_eng.pdf

Please note it may take a while to upload files for your application. Therefore, please remember to begin your application in due time.
This is especially important, if you already know you have a slow or unstable internet connection. A good idea would be to start before the day of the deadline.

If you need a break while working on your application, you can pause your application and continue later. It is very important that you complete your application well in advance of the deadline: the system shuts down at 12:00 noon sharp – even if you are still working on your application.

Before you submit your application, you will be redirected to a new screen in order to pay the application fee. Please note that it is not possible to submit your application, before you have paid the fee.
Your application will only be processed if we have received payment before the application deadline expires.

You acces the application portal via this link: Bachelor of Fine Arts 2025 The link will be available when the application portal opens.

Browser: We are aware that there may be problems completing and submitting the application in Internet Explorer. Therefore, we encourage you to use another browser.

GUIDELINES FOR UPLOAD OF MATERIAL
Please note that you MUST comply with the guidelines. Otherwise, we will reject your application.

You find the guidelines via this link: https://kunstakademiet.dk/en/guidelines-upload-material-bfa

APPLICATION FEE
You must pay an application fee of DKK 750. This fee is non-refundable regardless of the result of your application. The fees are used to cover expenses related to the admission.

ASSESSMENT AND REPLY
All applicants are assessed on the basis of an artistic evaluation of their artistic work. The committee’s assessment places emphasis on aspects such as the originality of the works submitted for consideration, and the applicant’s potential for artistic and professional development.

The assessment is carried out by a committee that comprises the rector or head of institute, the prorector, the head of the BFA programme, representatives of the professors, assistant professors and students at the Schools of Visual Arts, and at least one external examiner.

The committee assesses the individual applications and will select approximately fifty applicants who will be invited to attend an interview. Among other things, these interviews will be used to help the committee assess the applicants’ motivation, and their ability to place their own works within a wider perspective. We expect that the interviews will take place in the first weeks of April 2025.

Each applicant will be notified of the result of their assessment as soon as the entire assessment process is completed. Applicants who are not offered admission will be given an indication of how far into the process they progressed. No additional comments on the results of your assessment will be offered.

If you are admitted to the BFA programme, you must inform us of any previously completed courses/programme modules from other higher education degree programmes in Denmark or abroad, for which it must be assumed that credit transfers will be granted.

The Study Administration at the Schools of Visual Arts provide answers to a range of general frequently asked questions about the BFA admission process here.

TUITION FEE (NOT APPLICABLE FOR EU/EEA CITIZENS)
Pursuant to Executive Order no. 364 of 1. April 2019 on tuition fees for foreign students at higher education programmes in art under the auspices of the Danish Ministry of Culture, the Schools of Visual Arts must charge a tuition fee from international students who are not citizens of the EU or EEA or Switzerland.

The tuition fee comes to DKK 120,000 per academic year, corresponding to DKK 60,000 for the autumn semester (15 September to 31 January) and DKK 60,000 for the spring semester (1 February to 30 June).

The tuition fee must be paid before the semester begins. Students paying for a full academic year can divide their payment into two rates corresponding to the two semesters. Payment is made as a bank transfer to the Schools of Visual Arts’ bank account.

The Schools of Visual Arts cannot subsidise or otherwise help to cover the cost of these tuition fees.
