For this third edition of Why Words Now, Art Hub and The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts welcome artist and writer Mitch Speed.
“To write, you have to pitch. In fact, writing sometimes seems like nothing more than pitching. Over and over you send ideas off, hoping for a response. Each time you ask a simple question: “Here is an idea. Would you like to have it?”. Yet despite its simplicity, this question cloaks a world of psychological complexity, and gets at anxieties central to the contemporary precariat economy. To pitch is to raise the question: Why my words now? And even: Why me now?!?!”

For a discipline named after its engagement with the visual, there is an awful lot of words in the world of visual arts. In partnership with the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts’ School of Sculpture, Art Hub invites international artists, critics, curators and art historians to Copenhagen to present their work and answer the question about what the role of language is and can be in the space of the visual arts.
Why Words Now is curated by artist and academy professor Simon Dybbroe Møller, and independent curator and PhD student at Aarhus University Helga Just Christoffersen.
